Limits of Language
On October 11th, Field Music will release 'Limits of Language', their first album of new music for almost four years. Back in 2022, the touring cycle for the 'Flat White Moon' album ended with a sense of finality. For the first time since the Mercury-nominated 'Plumb' ten years earlier, Peter and David had no plan for what, if anything, would come next. However, after six years of continuation, they were clear that if Field Music was to carry on then it would have to be different, in both sound and scope. Solo projects followed with 2023 seeing the arrival of David's quietly-jazzy 'Soft Struggles', the playful of electronica of Peter's Blowdry Colossus alongside a limited-issue brass collaboration LP 'Binding Time' and the vault-raiding 'John Monroe' EP, made with original Field Music keyboard player Andrew Moore. It was these albums that provided fresh impetus for what was to become the new Field Music record. Whilst Peter amassed the instrumental compositions which become Blowdry Colossus, he was also tinkering with a batch of songs which would form the basis of 'Limits of Language', songs which mixed synthesised textures with off-the-cuff flickers of guitar and layers of disorientating found-sound percussion.

What limits phosphorus?
Phosphorus is primarily limited by its availability in the environment. It is often found in the form of phosphates in soil and water, but its availability can be limited by factors such as pH, temperature, and the presence of other nutrients. Excessive phosphorus can also lead to eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems, causing harmful algal blooms and disrupting the balance of the ecosystem. Proper management of phosphorus through practices such as reducing fertilizer use and implementing nutrient management strategies is essential to prevent its overabundance in the environment.

Impossibility : The Limits of Science and the Science of Limits
What can we never do? Barrow looks at what limits there might be to human discovery, and what we might find, ultimately, to be unknowable, undoable, or unthinkable.Science is a big success story, but where will it end? And, indeed, will it end? Weaving together a tapestry of surprises, Barrow explores the frontiers of knowledge. We find that the notion of 'impossibility' has played a striking role in our thinking.Surrealism, impossible figures, time travel, paradoxes of logic and perspectives - all stimulate us to contemplate something more than what is.Using simple explanations, it shows the reader that impossibility is a deep and powerful notion; that any Universe complex enough to contain conscious beings will contain limits on what those beings can know about their Universe; that what we cannot know defines reality as surely as what we can know.

Knowledge and its Limits
Knowledge and its Limits presents a systematic new conception of knowledge as a fundamental kind of mental state sensitive to the knower's environment. It makes a major contribution to the debate between externalist and internalist philosophies of mind, and breaks radically with the epistemological tradition of analysing knowledge in terms of true belief. The theory casts light on a wide variety of philosophical issues: the problem of scepticism, the nature of evidence, probability and assertion, the dispute between realism and anti-realism and the paradox of the surprise examination.Williamson relates the new conception to structural limits on knowledge which imply that what can be known never exhausts what is true. The arguments are illustrated by rigorous models based on epistemic logic and probability theory. The result is a new way of doing epistemology for the twenty-first century.

Do the limits of my language mean the limits of my world?
The idea that the limits of one's language also limit their world was proposed by philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. This concept suggests that our language shapes our thoughts and understanding of the world, and therefore, the limitations of our language can restrict our ability to comprehend certain concepts or experiences. However, it's important to note that while language plays a significant role in shaping our understanding of the world, it is not the sole determinant of our cognitive abilities or experiences. There are other factors such as culture, personal experiences, and individual cognitive processes that also contribute to our perception and understanding of the world.
